The Cowboy and the Airplane

THE COWBOY AND THE AIRPLANE

The chute gate is tight, the bull held in check,
Setting his rope, making sure it is just right,
Setting down on a ton of grit,
The cowboy wonders and starts getting set.

Now he wonders what’s in his bag,
Will he pass through customs without a snag?
Spurs and rawhide, leather and sweat,
Not to mention a little fear, as the flight time is checked.

Setting in his seat, the craft starts its roll,
Speed and momentum pressing him into his seat,
Tilting and climbing, the world growing small,
He tries to relax, as the plane levels off.

The gate swings wide, the bull gathers to lunge,
Knees and jaw clinched just as tight,
Twisting and jerking, lights left and right,
Buzzer sounds now run for your life.

Ground coming up with a rush and roar,
Level and settle, tires screech, lights flashing by,
Back thrust and braking, easing the speed,
The door and the gate both pop with a sound,
But now no running, just walking along with the crowd …..
